Lone Worker Policy for Veterinary Practice
The purpose of this policy is to provide guidance to employers and lone workers to enable them, as far as reasonably practicable, to stay safe when working alone or remotely from the practice.
This is a set of guidelines and procedures designed to protect employees who work alone or in isolated situations, ensuring their safety and well-being. These employees may be working in environments where they are the only person present, such as during late-night shifts, weekends, or when handling patients without the immediate presence of colleagues. In veterinary practices, lone workers may face unique risks due to the nature of their work, such as handling animals, performing medical procedures, or dealing with hazardous substances. The policy aims to mitigate risks, provide clear procedures for working alone, and ensure that staff members have the support they need in case of emergencies or issues that arise while working alone. It is recommended that specific risk assessments are also included in your suite of safety policies for the practice and that lone workers in your practice receive adequate and ongoing training on lone working.
